Successful Installation of State-of-the-Art Proteox®S Dilution Refrigerator at NUS Physics

June 10, 2026

W
e are pleased to announce the successful installation and commissioning of a market-leading cryogen-free dilution refrigerator from Quantum Design Oxford – ProteoxS, in the research laboratory of Assistant Professor Wister Wei Huang at the Department of Physics, National University of Singapore (NUS).

Since Quantum Design's acquisition of Oxford NanoScience (now operating as Quantum Design Oxford), Quantum Design Singapore operates as the direct sales and service office for Quantum Design Oxford products in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Our local service team worked closely with Prof. Huang's group to ensure a seamless installation, testing, and training process, bringing the system online to full operational specifications.

Professor Huang, an NUS Presidential Young Professor jointly appointed with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, leads a cutting-edge research team focused on addressing the hardware bottlenecks of quantum computing. His lab investigates the characterization and modelling of qubit performance, specifically studying high-fidelity logic gates and noise correlations in multi-qubit systems, as well as pioneering hybrid quantum architectures based on bilayer graphene, silicon, and planar germanium quantum dots.

The addition of the ProteoxS significantly accelerates the lab's experimental turnaround times and testing capacity. Engineered by Quantum Design Oxford and optimized for rapid sample cycling, the system features a patented bottom-loading sample exchange technology that enables sample puck cooldown time in less than 8 hours, eliminating the need to warm up the entire system between sample exchange. Delivering an ultra-low base temperature of below 10 mK without requiring liquid cryogens, this ProteoxS system is equipped with a 6/1/1 Tesla vector magnet, enabling advanced spin qubit research.

With this successful installation, Quantum Design Singapore reinforces its commitment to empowering the local scientific community and driving the growth of Singapore's quantum technology ecosystem.
